Fire officials were investigating the cause of a fire June 11, 2000 that gutted the Bergen Beach Stables, a century-old horse barn in the Mill Basin section of Brooklyn, killing 21 horses. The two-alarm fire broke out shortly before midnight Friday, engulfing the wooden, 46-stall barn at 1364 East 66th Street in 30-foot flames. May 7, 1989, The bodies of two young boys were found floating in Sheepshead Bay last night and were believed to be those of playmates missing since Friday from their Brooklyn home, the police reported. The police said the boys were last seen about 5 P.M. Friday in front of their building at 2502 East 19th Street. They were identified as Louis Miranda, 7 years old, and Juan LaPorte, 8. A police spokesman, Sgt. Peter Berry, said at the time that the boys had no history of running away and there were ''no custodial problems'' in their families. Juan was identified as the son of Juan Laporte, a professional boxer who won the 1976 112 lb New York Golden Gloves Sub-Novice Championship. He defeated Long Island's Ricky Brown in the finals. Laporte was defeated by Joseph Nieto of the Police Athletic Leagues Lynch Center in the 1977 118 lb Open Championship. Laporte trained at the Lunar Boys Club in Brooklyn, New York. Kennedy International Airport on February 28, 1984. The flight, operated by a McDonnell Douglas DC-10, originated at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Sweden, before a stopover at an airport in Oslo, Norway. All 177 passengers and crew members onboard survived, although 115 were injured.
